NATIONAL NATURE STUDY - cum - TREKKING EXPEDITION: 2007
Kullu - Manali [Reporting Dates: 25th April to 25th May, 2007]
Hello Students,
Combine Adventure with education, camp for eight days in the beautiful Kullu Valley, the abode of gods in Himachal Pradesh. All this is being organised for you by the Youth Hostels Association of India.
The Nature Study Camp includes bird-watching, star gazing, rock climbing, trekking and first aid training. You may also photograph the panoramic views of surrounding areas. Avail this opportunity of staying in the camps set amidst majestic snow peaks of the Himalayas and meet the youngsters from various parts of the country. At night, sit around camp fire after dinner for a cultural get-together.
Purpose of the Programme
The purpose of the program is to expose the YHAI members to a greater adventure and to rough out the rigours of plodding through snow with a sense of love for nature and outdoor recreational activity aiming at promotiong national integraion.
Age
The programme is open to students of age group 10 to 15 years. Only Junior members are allowed to participate.
Fee
Rs. 1300/- for a package of eight enjoyable days in the pollution-free atmosphere of the Himalayas. This includes simple vegetarian food, accommodation, equipment, training, trek to the snow line and insurance.
One teacher escort accompanying a group of 10 students, will be complimentary in terms of participation fee. Booking will be done on "first come first served" basis.
How to Reach
Cradled amidst apple orchards and terraced rice fields, Dobhi is directly connected with Delhi (527 Kms), Chandigarh (226 Kms), Shimla (250 Kms) and Pathankot (299 Kms) by road. The nearest rail heads for Dobhi are Joginder Nagar and Pathankot but Chandigarh is the best bet. The nearest airport is Bhuntar. Youth Hostel Dobhi is 14 Kms from Kullu on Kullu-Manali Highway.

Schedule of Programme
You may choose to report at the base camp on any day from 25th April to 25th May, 2007.

The schedule will be as follows.
Day 1 Report at Base Camp Youth Hostel Dobhi. Ht. 4,500 ft.
Day 2 Acclimatization, Rock Climbing and Orientation
Day 3 Base Camp to Katrai by bus (4 Kms). Trek to Kharogi Youth Hostel (7Kms) Ht. 6000 ft.
Day 4 Trek to Naya Tapru Youth Hostel (12 Kms) 6 Hrs.
Day 5 Trek to the Base of Chanderkhani Pass (Ht.10000 ft.) and back to Naya Tapru Youth Hostel (12 Kms) 6 Hrs.
Day 6 Trek to Nathan Seri Youth Hostel (14 Kms) Ht. 6000 ft.
Day 7 Trek to Base Camp, Youth Hostel Dobhi (10 Kms, 3 Hrs.). Valedictory Function.
Day 8 Group breaks after breakfast.
 
Things to bring along with you for the trek
Rucksack (if you have one), cotton shirts. cotton pants/jeans. two woollen jerseys, woollen scarf/muffler/cap, DMS/Hunterboots, two pairs of woollen socks, light raincoat, gloves, torch, water bottle, lunch box, mug, plate, spoon, penknife, dark glasses (other than blue colour), thread, needle, spare buttons, ball point pen, notebooks, vaseline or cold cream, adhesive plaster. toilet kit, towel, soap and medicines you generally use at home.
Safety
Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trek routes for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.
How to Apply
Members desirous of joining this program may apply on the Registration Form duly supported by Medical Certificate, which is available free of cost from units / state branches and National Office. Available forms on this site are:

You can print these forms and send dully filled forms on the address given below in this page along with Demand Draft of Participation Fee drawn in favour of "National Secretary, Y.H.A. of India" and payable at Delhi.
Certificates
Participants who successfully complete the trek and abide by the discipline of the programme, will be awarded certificates. Programme Schedule / Route Programme Schedule and Routes are subject to change without prior notice.
Cancellations
In case you are unable to join the trek after paying the participation fee, you will get a refund of Rs.650/- provided your request is received directly in the National Office at least 7 days in advance from the date of your reporting. No refund will, however, be admissible if such notice is short of 7 days.
Adventure Scholarships for the Physically Challenged Youth
YHAI announces 50 adventure scholarships of Rs.650/- each to physically challenged youth including deaf and dumb for this expedition. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office, YHAI on a plain paper supported by relevant certificates.
Photographic Competition
After the completion of each trekking expedition,photographic competition is held for which attractive cash prizes and certificates are awarded. You may also send your entries on the following subjects:
   Nature (Birds, Flowers, Wildlife, Scenic beauty),
   Camping,
   Trekking.
The size of the prints should be 8"x10". Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards with due acknowledgement/compensation. Last date for submitting entries is 31st July, 2005.

Your Attention
Please note that this is an environment friendly trek. Do not litter any wrappers or spoil the trail in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or any thing left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you for deposit at the base camp. We will be selecting and appointing two environ-leaders per group. If you have an inclination and an eye for environment protection, we will be glad to receive your particulars along with your registration form.
IMPORT OF ANY BIO NON DEGRADABLE MATERIAL IN HIMACHAL PRADESH IS AN OFFENCE
WARNING :
   Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited.
   Smoking, Use of Alcohols and Narcotics of any description are strictly prohibited during the course of the programme.
