Youth Hostels Association of India introduced this trek last year and got a overwhelming response. On a strong demand of a large segment of YHAI members, we are organising Saurkundi Pass Trek this year also in the Kullu- Manali Valley of Himachal Pradesh.Saurkundi Pass trail, one of the most popular trails in the Pirpanjal Range is being activated with additional attractions. Himachal has been referred to as the land of Gods and Goddesses, snow-clad mountains and perennial streams with crystal clean water. Its beautiful valleys present extensive forests and picturesque meadows dotted with a variety of flora and fauna which beckon the young adventure lovers to come and experience the serene and calm atmosphere of all pervading nature. Himachal is the ultimate destination for adventure sports. Trekking through the Pirpanjal with beautiful trails passes the charm of all momentary actions. SAURKUNDI PASS trail offers an opportunity to enjoy the timeless beauty of Kullu Valley with. Segli, Maylee and Longa Thatch as its beauty spots. Base camp Babeli is famous for its cool and pleasant climate with tall pine trees. Doura Thatch can be literally called the little Siachin where one can experience the challenge of nature in full fury during spine chilling cold nights. The splendid views of snowy peaks offer an endless feast to the eyes. Longa Thatch. Fascinate the trekkers with sweet grasses, wild flowers and ferns and a variety of birds. | Purpose of the Programme | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| The purpose of the programme is to expose the YHAI members to a greater adventure and to rough out the rigors of plodding through snow with a sense of love for nature and outdoor recreational activity aiming at promoting national integration. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Age | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| The minimum age for joining these expeditions is 15 years. This condition will be adhered to strictly. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Fee | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Rs. 1,950 /- per head, which will cover stay in tented accommodation, simple nutritious vegetarian food, guidance, equipment and insurance. You will however, bear the to and fro travel expenses from your home town to the Base Camp and back. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| How to Reach | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Saurkundi Pass Trail: For Saurkundi Pass trail, our base camp is at Babeli which is on Kullu Manali Highway . It is 7 kms from Kullu Bus stand. Direct bus services are also available from ISBT Delhi ,Chandigarh and other parts of Punjab to Kullu-Manali. | ![]() |

| Things to bring along with you for the trek | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Rucksack (if you have one), shirts, pants/jeans, (woollen/Cotton), woollen jersey, thick jacket, woollen muffler/balaclava, gloves, inner garments (woollen / Cotton), three to four pairs of thick woolen socks, light rain coat, goggles (other than blue color), torch with extra batteries, water bottle, lunch box, face cold cream, soap, towel, toilet paper, adhesive plaster, talcum powder and first-aid kit including medicines you use normally. Directly Molded Sole (DMS)/Snow Shoes or trekking boots are a must for walking on snow. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Safety | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Extensive and painstaking
preparations have gone into the planning of trek routes for your safety. Our
field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check
all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth
Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident,
illness and such other unforeseen eventualities. Deviation from the set route of the programme is not permitted. If participants desire to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the trek and checking out. |

program may apply on the Registration Form duly supported by Medical
Certificate, which is available free of cost from units / state branches and

| Certificates | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Participants who successfully complete the trek and abide by the discipline of the programme, will be awarded certificates. Programme Schedule / Route Programme Schedule and Routes are subject to change without prior notice. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Cancellations | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| In case you are unable to join the trek after paying the participation fee, you will get Rs. 975/- as refund of participation fee provided your request is received directly in the National Office at least 7 days in advance from the date of your reporting. No refund will, however, be admissible if such notice falls short of 7 days | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Adventure Scholarships for the Physically Challenged Youth | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| YHAI announces 50 Adventure Scholarships of Rs.975/- each to the physically challenged youth including deaf and dumb for these expeditions. Deserving youth may apply to the National Office, on a plain paper, duly supported by relevant certificates. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Special Casual Leave | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Trekking Expeditions organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, (Dept. of Personnel and Training), Government of India, vide office order No. 28016/89- Estt(A), dated 25th October, 1989. Participants working for Central Government, can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in a calendar year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Photographic Competition | |||||||||||||||||||||||
After the completion of each trekking expedition,
photographic competition is held for which attractive cash prizes and
certificates are awarded. You may also send your entries on the following
subjects: Nature (Birds, Flowers, Wildlife, Scenic beauty),The size of the prints should be 8"x10". Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards with due acknowledgement/compensation. Last date for submitting entries is 31st July, 2005. |

| Your Attention | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Please note that this is an environment friendly trek. Do not litter any wrappers or spoil the trail in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or any thing left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you for deposit at the base camp. We will be selecting and appointing two environ-leaders per group. If you have an inclination and an eye for environment protection, we will be glad to receive your particulars along with your registration form. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
